“Las imágenes hablaron por sí mismas”

Martín Desalvo, director de El día trajo la oscuridad, proyecto ganador del WIP de la 27º edición, cuenta el camino que tuvo que recorrer para llegar a finalizar la película y que esté pronta a estrenarse.

El proyecto arranca cuando el guion de El día trajo la oscuridad gana el premio para primeras y segundas películas del INCAA 2009. Sabíamos con los productores que con ese dinero podíamos afrontar el rodaje, pero que faltaba para la postproducción. De hecho la post de imagen requería bastante más dinero y trabajo que lo usual, porque ya desde el diseño de imagen de la película queríamos lograr una imagen fantástica -pero creíble- que fuese un elemento fundamental de la estética. Esto consistía en filmar las noches, tanto interiores como exteriores como una especie de “noche americana”. Había que filmar de día, pero sólo si estaba nublado ya que el sol genera mucho contraste, así que, como los vampiros, si salía el sol nos metíamos a filmar interiores. Luego se pasa por una corrección de color en el scratch -la colorista realmente hizo magia- y a la vez se trabajaban los cielos compuestos en VFX, otro departamento fundamental en la imagen de la película.

Ahora bien, esto al finalizar el rodaje era solo un sueño y una apuesta a futuro. Había que conseguir todo. En cuanto se abrió la convocatoria del WIP coincidimos en que debíamos presentarnos y así lo hicimos. Recuerdo trabajar fuertemente para lograr un armado de 9 minutos donde se pudiera contar la trama de la película, pero sin develar todo. Trabajamos duro junto al DF para intentar lograr el clima de la película sin los recursos con los que debíamos contar. También recuerdo la alegría de haber quedado seleccionados y la emoción de volver a mostrar material propio (¡en CINE!).

Cuando subí a presentar la película se me hizo un nudo en la garganta y casi no pude hablar. Por suerte las imágenes hablaron por sí mismas. Después de responder varias e interesantes preguntas del jurado, al que le estaré eternamente agradecido, sólo había que esperar la decisión y la entrega de premios. La alegría y la emoción que sentí al enterarme que había sido el ganador, sinceramente, es difícil de describir. Sólo puedo decir que gracias a este premio no solo pudimos terminar todos los procesos de imagen que necesitábamos, sino que el galardón posicionó a la película en un lugar de privilegio. Gracias a este premio pudimos ganar el fondo Metropolitano y con esto terminar la post de sonido. La película está terminada y lista para empezar su recorrido por festivales y próxima a estrenarse. Un sueño hecho realidad. Me encantaría a modo de agradecimiento y como para devolver un poco de la generosidad recibida regalarle una función al público del festival en la próxima edición. ¡Salud!

The joy and excitement I felt when I found out I had won , honestly, it's hard to describe. I can only say thank you for this award not only able to finish all needed image processing , but the award positioned the film in a place of privilege. “Un buen guión es un corcho, siempre sale a flote”

Ya pasó casi un año desde el cierre del último Festival de Mar del Plata. Ojos, el cortometraje que presentamos, resultó ser el ganador de su categoría. Fue muy especial para mí, no esperaba el premio, lo deseaba, pero no lo esperaba. Es un cortometraje muy simple, un solo plano detalle de unos ojos, de 6 minutos de duración. Mis propios prejuicios no me permitían ver lo que uno nunca debería dejar de ver, y es que solo se necesita una idea para contar un cuento. Un buen amigo mío me dijo alguna vez: “Un buen guión es un corcho, siempre sale a flote”. En el Festival pudieron ver eso; Ojos tenía un cuento que contar. Y es un gran alivio saber que en el Festival más importante de nuestro país, las ideas cuentan. El cine cuesta, el cine duele, es fácil desalentarse. Un montón de recursos concentrados en un capricho, un montón de gente trabajando impulsados básicamente por la fe. Muchas cosas pueden fallar, muchos imprevistos tuercen el rumbo, nunca se sabe dónde nos va a llevar ese cuento que obstinadamente queremos contar. Entonces aparece el Festival de Mar del Plata y se renuevan los votos de fe. Porque Mar del Plata se llena de cuentos.

It's been almost a year since the close of the last Festival de Mar del Plata . Eyes , the short film presented , proved the winner in its category . It was very special to me , did not expect the award, he wished, but not expecting it. It is a very simple short film , a single plane detail eyes of 6 minutes. My own bias would not let me see what one should never fail to see , is that you just need an idea to tell a story . A good friend of mine once said : " A good script is a cork , always comes out " . At the Festival could see that; Eyes had a story to tell. And it is a great relief to know that the most important festival of our country, have ideas . The film cost , the film hurts, is easy to become discouraged . A lot of resources concentrated on a whim, a lot of people working mainly driven by faith. Many things can go wrong , many unforeseen destroy the way , you never know where it will take us that story that stubbornly want to tell.
