LOS ANGELES (August 12, 2015) El Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara en Los Ángeles - FICG in LA – presentado por la University of Guadalajara Foundation en USA y CONACULTA, con los Patrocinadores Principales Universidad de Guadalajara, el Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, el Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE), UNIVISION y LA OPINION anunciaron la programación de su 5º edición. “Messi” dirigida por Alex de la Iglesia, será la película que abra el Festival. Este documental retrata al mejor jugador de fútbol de hoy en día que a los 11 años corrió el riesgo de ver el final de carrera antes de que empezara. Con entrevistas informales, recreaciones y espectaculares imágenes de las hazañas legendarias de Messi, esta película narra la increíble historia de su ascenso a la gloria,.
FICG in LA es una extensión del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara que presenta lo mejor del cine mexicano y latinoamericano en Los Angeles.
El festival regresa al Egyptian Theatre en Hollywood en su quinta edición, y tendrá lugar desde el jueves 27 de agosto al domingo 30 de agosto. Se exhibirán las mejores películas de FICG30, que tuvo lugar del 6 – 15 de marzo de 2015 en Guadalajara.
El objetivo del festival es incrementar el acceso al cine Mexicano e Ibero-Americano y aumentar su visibilidad facilitando el intercambio de ideas a través de la narración de historias y de temas socialmente relevantes, creando puentes entre la industria del cine Mexicano y el Americano e iniciando colaboraciones entre cineastas internacionales y fortaleciendo la presencia del cine Mexicano e Ibero-Americano en los Estados Unidos, así como en otras partes del mundo.
FICG in LA incluye proyecciones seguidas de sesiones de preguntas y respuestas con el talento y los cineastas, así como galas, alfombras rojas, paneles y reconocimientos a artistas latinoamericanos y latinos.
“El Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara en Los Ángeles (FICG in LA) 2015 representa la culminación de cinco años de continua pasión y dedicación al avance del arte y del cine Latino e Iberoamericano en los Estados Unidos. Lo que una vez fue un pequeño evento de tres días, se ha convertido en un robusto festival de cine que ofrece actividades para la industria, paneles, competencias de proyectos en etapa de postproducción y programas para la toda familia. “En cinco años FICG in LA ha tenido como objetivo promocionar el cine mexicano e iberoamericano para que personas de otras latitudes puedan conocer y apreciar las grandes producciones que se han venido realizando en todos los países de habla hispana; y de igual forma hemos hecho todo lo posible para que cineastas de Estados Unidos y Canadá interesados en abordar temáticas latinas puedan seguir profesionalizándose o bien perfeccionando sus capacidades para dar una mayor continuidad a sus proyectos.” Dijo Iván Trujillo, Director del Festival FICG.
Entre las personalidades que nos acompañaron en anteriores ediciones destacamos a Carlos Cuarón, Isela Vega, Edward James Olmos, Sergio Arau, Diana Bracho, Alfonso Arau, Kate del Castillo, Rubén Luengas, Martha Higareda, Beto Cuevas, Irene Azuela, Dulce Maria, Carmen Salinas y Jay Hernandez.
En representación de la dinastía Derbez, Eugenio Dérbez recibirá el premio Árbol de la Vida. Eugenio Caballero, director de arte y ganador de un Oscar por su trabajo en “El laberinto del Fauno”, Ofelia Medina (actriz mexicana), Josep Parera (periodista de La Opinion) y LPB (Latino Public Broadcasting) también recibirán el premio Árbol de la Vida por su contribución a la cultura mexicana, latina e iberoamericana.
Los homenajeados de otras ediciones incluyen a Demián Bichir, Gabriela Teisser, Rubén Luengas, NALIP, AMBULANTE, Juan Carlos Arciniegas (CNN en Español), Fernando Luján (actor), Gabriel Beristain (director de fotografía) y Emilio Kauderer (Compositor).
Con el objetivo de contribuir a la conclusión de largometrajes de ficción y documentales de realizadores latinos e Iberoamericanos radicados en EE.UU. y Canadá, y a producciones de Estadounidenses o Canadienses de contenido latino o latinoamericano en etapa de postproducción, FICG in LA continúa con las competencias de work-in-progress: Guadalajara Construye en Los Ángeles 2 y DocuLab.2 Los Angeles que se celebrarán los días 27 y 28 de agosto de 2015.
Además de ello, los proyectos ganadores en cada competición serán automáticamente considerados para Guadalajara Construye 10 o DocuLab.8 Guadalajara, o para la competición Ibero-Americana del Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara (FICG30) que tendrá lugar 4 – 13 de marzo de 2016.
Para reafirmar la labor social de FICG y la University of Guadalajara Foundation in USA, FICG in LA donará la recaudación del Festival a una causa benéfica. Próximamente anunciaremos la organización que recibirá la donación.

El Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara fue fundado por el cineasta mexicano Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, con la inestimable ayuda de jóvenes estudiantes de cine entre los que se encontraba Guillermo del Toro y con el apoyo de la Universidad de Guadalajara. LOS ANGELES (August 12, 2015) – Today the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Los Angeles (FICG in LA) - presented by the University of Guadalajara Foundation in USA and CONACULTA, with Principal Sponsors the University of Guadalajara, the Guadalajara International Film Festival, the Institute of Cinema Mexico (IMCINE), UNIVISION and LA OPINION announced its lineup. MESSI directed by Álex de la Iglesia, will be the Opening Night film for the 2015 Festival. This documentary portrays today’s greatest soccer player who at age 11 ran the risk of seeing his career ending before it started. With informal interviews, re-enactments, and spectacular footage of Messi’s legendary exploits, this film tells the incredible, true story of his rise to glory.
The 2015 FICG in LA, which returns to the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood for its fifth year and runs from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30, brings the best of contemporary Mexican and Latin American cinema to Los Angeles, and is an extension of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
Featuring outstanding and award-winning titles from FICG30, which ran from March 6-15, 2015 in Guadalajara, FICG in LA will offer the premiere of other titles that have emerged in the world of cinema throughout the year to great critical acclaim.
The aim of the festival is to increase access and visibility of Mexican and Latin American cinema in the U.S., facilitating the exchange of ideas through stories and issues of cultural and social relevance, create a space for collaboration between filmmakers, and strengthen relations between the film industry in Mexico and the U.S.
FICG in LA includes film screenings followed by Q&As with filmmakers and talent, as well as galas, panels and special award recognitions to Latin American and U.S. Latino artists.
“FICG in LA 2015 represents the culmination of five years of continuous dedication and passion to further the Latino arts and cinema in the U.S. What was once a tiny three-day showcase of Latino and Ibero-American cinema, is now a lively, eventful film festival, filled with industry events, work-in-progress competitions, family-oriented programs and panel discussions. Los Angeles is the perfect backdrop for FICG in LA to thrive, as it is a patchwork of so many different cultures and communities from across Latin America; however, we hope that our audience is as diverse as the city itself, because many of these stories universally relate to communities of all backgrounds,” said Hebe Tabachnik, Director and Producer of FICG in LA.

Eugenio Derbez will receive the Tree of Life award in representation of the Derbez dynasty. Oscar winner Eugenio Caballero (Best Art Direction, Pan Labyrinth), Ofelia Medina (Mexican actress), Josep Parera (Entertainment Editor La Opinion) and LPB (Latino Public Broadcasting) will also receive the festival’s Tree of Life Award for their contributions to Mexican, Latino and Ibero-American culture. Previous recipients include Demián Bichir (actor), Juan Carlos Arciniegas (CNN en Espanol), Fernando Luján (actor), Rubén Luengas (journalist), Gabriel Beristain (Director of Photography) and Emilio Kauderer (Music Composer).
FICG in LA continues to support Latino and Ibero-American films with Guadalajara Construye in Los Angeles 2 and DocuLab.2 Los Angeles by selecting six projects from filmmakers seeking post-production funds. The films will be screened for jury members, sponsors and film industry professionals. The winners will be announced on Friday August 28.
In addition, the winning projects in each competition will automatically qualify to be considered for Guadalajara Construye 10 or DocuLab.8 Guadalajara, or for the Ibero-American Competitions of the next edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG31) – March 4 - 13, 2016.
To reaffirm the social mission of FICG and the University of Guadalajara Foundation in USA, FICG in LA will donate again all of its proceeds to a charitable cause. We will announce soon the recipient of this year’s fundraising effort.
