Literally Short Film Festival is a multi-day, annual event based in Houston, TX. It is a derivative of Literal, an award-winning publication originated in the United States and Mexico. Following with Literal’s mission, Literally Short is a film festival initiated by the drive to bridge all cultures onto on collaborative stage that stimulates artistic expression. Our mission is to promote innovative approaches to the art of storytelling and cinema. Our passion for film lies in its amazing capacity to merge a multitude of arts into one vision; thus, Literally Short seeks to dissolve all geographical boundaries into one platform that equally voices all cultures.
Additionally, we believe that filmmakers deserve more than just a spotlight. They deserve a strong incentive to keep doing what they love most, not only because we know how difficult it is to fund films, but also because artists’ stories are the ones that reflect who we are as a society today, and there is much importance in that.
We like to transform this incentive into a monetary value of $5,000 USD for our Grand Jury Prize, $1,000 USD for our Best Picture prize and $500 USD for our Award of Excellence.
There are three main film programs in the festival: International Voices, containing films from all over the world, México Lindo y Querido, Mexican short films, and Local & Fresh, Texas short films. We accept narrative short films, experimental, animated and documentary short films, all competing equally. We want out audience to attend our festival and experience a medley of voices and stories that go past our viewer’s comfort zone to make them think about different worlds outside their own. After all, our audience is one that loves art and is curious to find new perspectives. We look forward to watching your films!
